Savannah- Another First :)

Savannah is doing great! She surprised me today. The doctor wrote orders today allowing her to try non nutritive sucking once a day. Non nutritive sucking is practice nursing. She still has the feeding tube and is not expected to eat- it is just an introduction to nursing. She was asleep when the nurse handed her to me. She showed no signs of being interested so I had low expectations. Well I was so wrong!! She woke up and latched right on. She did so well! She did tire out quickly and started to desat so it was a very short practice session, but I'm still impressed and surprised with her accomplishment. I kangaroo carried her for the next two hours and she stabilized and had no more desats.

They are increasing her feeds again. The goal is to get her to 22mls. She is currently at 20 mls. They are continuing to fortify the milk to 30 calories. She is still on the cannula but she has improved her breathing so they decreased her to 3 liters from 4 liters of oxygen. She is currently 2lbs 12ozs.

I forgot my camera in the car. My mom showed up and got it for me so I got a few pictures but not as many I normally would take.

Thank for continuing to pray for Savannah. Please also continue to pray for her friend. Her friend is fighting off an infection, has had 2 recent blood transfusions and has a low platelet count. Please pray for her to overcome all of these hurdles and continue forward so she can be graduated alongside Savannah and that they both will be home soon.

Here are the pictures from today:

Nurse Tess is making sure she is all snuggled in her Z flo (the special bed)

Sweet Dreams Savannah
