Savannah had another day of rest. I did not get to hold her. They kept all hands on activities at a minimum. They tried to decrease her oxygen support (aka bubble cpap) from 6 liters to 5. She lasted at a 5 for about an hour before showing signs of stress. They decided to put back on the cpap at 6 and give her some more time.
I had a better day. One of the other preemie moms thought she was having a girl but surprise it was a boy! Anyways she gave 2 girl outfits that she had purchased. It's crazy how a newborn size looked so big to me!
Last night was rough because the thunderstorm kept waking up Baby Kevin....so for tonight I summoned the help of my two sisters so I could try and get some rest.
So the good news is:
- They have increased her feeds. They increased from 5 to 6ml. She is tolerating her feeds very well.
- She gained weight. She is 2lbs 4oz.
- She grew taller. She is 14 1/2 inches tall.
- Her stomach is back to "normal"- no more air or bloating.
- Her xrays look good.
The following labs are still pending:
- urine culture
- blood culture
- another xray is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
We are still pending the 48 blood cultures, but the preliminary report shows no infection. This can mean 2 things--1) she had the infection and the antibiotics are working. 2) she never had an infection. I'll know more tomorrow.
I hope to get to hold her tomorrow. Please continue to pray for her and pray that I'll conquer my fear of holding her. I'm so worried that she'll have an event again. Everything in me wants to hold her but there remains that fear because of last time.
Thanks Nurse Jan for taking this picture for me.
I did this shot in black and white because my camera messed up the color. The color version has Savannah looking like she is red...and she is NOT red.
