Thursday-she did it!! She weighed in at 5lbs 1oz. 5 lbs is great milestone to celebrate. It does not mean that she is able to come home. She still needs to be off oxygen support and eat without a feeding tube. She got her 2 months old shot. We worked on breastfeeding today and she did really well. She did so well that they did NOT have to supplement her. The doctors said that ideally she should be off oxygen support by now. She is 1 liter of oxygen and is at 21% to 26% of oxygen. She is tolerating the 1 liter of oxygen- and she still is not over the congestion/cold. Prayerfully once that clears up, she will be on the fast track to being cannula free and breathing on her own.
Thursday morning- I arrived at the nicu to find Savannah under the care of one of my favorite nurses! I was so excited. What makes her a good nurse? Let me tell you. She had Savannah for only 1 1/2 hours and had already done 3 of the things I was concerned about. 3 things that the previous nurse of 2 days didn't do or had to be asked before she would do it. 1-she had "chapstick" on Savannah's parched lips. 2- Her diaper ointment had been replaced. The old one was missing the cap and that didn't seem sanitary to me. 3- she had recommended that Savannah be placed on reflux meds to help make her comfortable which will hopefully also help her breathing improve. She did all 3 things without being asked by me. She is very proactive and is so gentle with Savannah. I love her! She loves Savannah and is very passionate about her job. Sidenote: thankfully a majority of the nurses are proactive. The previous nurse is not the norm.
Baby N is continuing on the track towards home! He is doing great! I'm happy for them and looking forward to playdates in the future. Baby N has a big brother about Baby Kevin's age so it should make for fun times together.
Savannah's best friend is facing more hurdles. The doctors are continuing to try and find answers for the complications that she is having. They suggested a new medicine that has some high risk for very negative side affects. Her mom was faced with the difficult decision of whether or not to try the medicine. Please keep baby and her mom in your prayers. Pray for healing, peace and for wisdom for the doctors.
Please pray for Savannah's congestion to clear up, for her breathing to improve, for her reflux to be eliminated and for her to excel with her feedings. Thank you for continuing to pray for Savannah and her friends.
Pictures to come once I find the usb cable! *sigh* makes me sad that I can't share her cuteness with you.
