Savannah-1st full day in NICU West

NICU West is sooo quiet. No monitors beeping. No nurses running to ORs. No races to the crash carts. It is a slower- more serene pace which is a nice change. But also means no one else to talk to :( I did not see any other parents. No Nicu mafia. Few familiar faces. But it was nice to have some quiet time with just Savannah.

Her first morning feed- bottle feeding- was not good. She was so uncomfortable. She refluxed up her nose and mouth. I felt like such a failure because she didn't have problems when the nurses fed her. Savannah's BFF's mom told me that it was probably just because she gets so excited because it's mommy that she is too excited and doesn't pace herself properly. Her nurse pretty much said the same thing. It helped me feel a little better...I guess.

Her second feeding- under the supervision of her lactation consultant- went very well!! She had some reflux but not nearly as bad as the first feeding. I was very encouraged by her progress. It helped erase some of my mommy self-doubt. Together she and I while figure it out. I just need to be patient and trust God that He will bring it all together in His perfect timing. I spent 7 hours at the NICU today. It's important that we find our grove so she can come home.

It was a great 7 hours! However I missed my Kevins. Daddy Kevin has allergies but is avoiding the nicu to be on the safe side. Baby Kevin can't see her of course. He played in the hallway outside the nicu when PaPa dropped him off. He said "baby" and "nah'na" but he has no idea what that really means! Prayerfully he will get to enjoy his sister soon. I am so looking forward to having our family together- no more juggling siblings- just us all in one place.

Savannah now weighs 5lbs 11.6 oz now. She looks great!

Baby N is on track to come home on tuesday or wednesday so pray that he is able to stay on track and go home!

Savannah's BFF is doing better. She is producing her own platelets! No transfusions needed. She still needs for her feeds, digestion and liver functions to improve- so please continue to pray for her.

Thank you for continuing to pray our NICU crew.

Here are some pictures from today.

"What have my cousin and mommy done to me? Can Savannah come home so they have someone else to play dress up with? I don't want to be dressed like Erkel! Come on little sister- please come home soon."

Isn't she gorgeous? :)

  1. She is so beautiful!! I remember feeling the exact same way about feedings, totally incompetent. Why could the nurses do it right and not me? Thankfully it all clicks! So glad she is so close to coming home.
