Baby Kevin and Savannah updates

Baby Kevin has his 18 month checkup today. It was a new pedi and I think we may have found a pedi office we like. We only had to wait 5 minutes. Kevin now weighs 23lbs 11oz and is 31 inches tall. He had his 18 months shots. Normally, he doesn't cry too much but I guess he understands the process now. He started crying the minute the nurse began massaging his leg! He quickly calmed down, but it was definitely new for him. He has excelled these past 2 weeks! I think speech therapy is no longer needed. He now says shoe, sock, eat, amen, cracker, cookie, ball, fly, bee, book, flag, Ashley, Mama (FINALLY associates it with me!), dada, please, thank you, bye, hi, dog and fish. I'm so proud of him and he is contact reminder that preemies are strong.
and spend time with Savannah and also to allow us some time together and hopefully to catch up on some sleep. It's hard being away from Baby Kevin even though I know he's having fun with his family.

We arrived at the NICU after shift change (8pm)- only to find out that the NICU was closed until 9pm because of some procedure being done on a baby that required a highly sensitive, highly sterile environment. I was so disappointed. Kevin was exhausted and I was hoping to spend as much time with Savannah. I felt cheated out of an hour of time with both kids because I could have been with Baby Kevin had I known about the 9pm opening. Anyways in the midst of my pity party, God spoke to me. I was reminded to be grateful for all my blessings. I may have lost an hour but what about that baby and the baby's family? It couldn't be good if they had to shut down the entire NICU. I was also reminded about the set of twins that passed away last week. I said a prayer for unknown family, the twins' parents and thanked God for Savannah and her progress. It turned out to be an hour spent with Savannah's neighbor's parents and it went by pretty quickly.

We arrived to a very peaceful Savannah and more good news!
  • She made a jump in weight. She is now ::drum roll please:: TWO lbs and 1 oz. She has officially passed her birth weight!
  • She is now eating 9ml every 3 hours. Her TPN and lipids have been reduced. She tolerated every feeding well- no residual!
Side note: Residual is food from a previous feeding left in the stomach at the start of the next feeding. Residual means the baby is not digesting all of their food. If the residual is green, it can be a sign of infection.
  • She is now breathing 28.5% room air and her high flow nasal cannula is now at 2 liters of oxygen.
I got to kangaroo carry her again tonight. She did really well. She snuggled against me and her monitors did not go off the entire time!

Please continue to pray for Savannah. We really appreciate it. I only have 2 pictures from today. Kevin was the photographer and he doesn't take pictures like i do. sooooo here are the two pictures :)

The sign made for her by the nurses.
Snuggle time with mommy. oh yeah they sponged her hair off so it's nice and clean now. I was sad I missed washing her hair but glad to see it all clean.

  1. Fabulous update! Savannah is adorable! And I love her isolette! I love how you put a positive spin on being angry, I have a hard time doing that, but am getting better. God blesses all of us.
