Waking Up With Mr. Sunshine

Baby Kevin may still be working on his nap time routine and working out the kinks of sleeping through the night but he has definitely set his morning awake time- 5:30am. I am totally to blame for this because of my early morning routine. Daddy Kevin has drop off duty all this week because Grandma Sayers is in Barbados (I know I’m so envious of her! I want to be in Barbados too!). Anyways Oma Grant has double duty with Baby Kevin. Daddy Kevin normally gets up at 6am so he now has to get up a little earlier thanks to Baby Kevin. He is so cute though (Baby Kevin that is)! He wakes up smiling and babbling and his little arms and legs in full windmill mode. It’s hard to say goodbye because I just want to sit there and play with him because he is so interactive. He definitely is our Mr. Sunshine in the mornings- who needs coffee?? I just wake up to my little man. It’s the best! I so wanted to take some pictures or videos of his morning happiness but I figured Daddy Kevin would not appreciate me turning on all the lights so you’ll just have to take my word for it.

So I touched on it yesterday…but I guess I better elaborate. Spit up is very common in our house. Baby Kevin has a daily fashion show because we require so many changes…and sometimes the bibs can’t even contain all the spit up. However I thought this was just a laundry problem (yes we have a daily load for him) and I haven’t really worried about it. The physical therapist pointed out that he silently refluxing- arching his back and you can see him swallowing, but nothing surfaces. She is concerned because he does not consistently roll over and is still having problems with a side preference. She said she thinks it might be directly related to the reflux issues. My pedi didn’t seem too concerned because he is still gaining weight and doesn’t seem to be in pain because of the reflux. However she did give us some meds to see if they help. I consulted other preemie moms (who kids suffer with reflux) and a few friends in the peds field and the unanimous vote- was to have him see a GI specialist. I called the GI specialist today and they won’t see him without a referral. The pedi doesn’t want to give a referral until he had tried 30 days with the meds. So I’m stuck in limbo… Bottom line: I am just really struggling with what is best for him. I am trying to find the line between “mommy worrying” and a true concern. I obviously want the best for him and I don’t know if he is silently suffering because of the reflux. It’s really hard to wait 30 days but I am trusting God to take care of him and guide me.

These are some pictures from today. We have on our first 3-6 month outfit. He reminds me of the cordory teddy bear. :)
